Your Role: As the Rural Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner you will be at the forefront of rural healthcare.

You'll have the opportunity to work at your full scope of practice as you provide comprehensive primary care services in our community medical clinic.

You will be an important and independent member of our healthcare team which includes our NP, RNs, LPN, social worker, and clinic staff!

Position: Rural Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner

  • Clinic: Consort Medical Clinic (NP is independent practitioner within health team)

  • FTE: 1.0 as per Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (NPPC) program requirements

  • Position Term: 2-year position (with possible extension as per GoA Funding)

  • Schedule: Days with occasional after-hours &/or weekend coverage

  • Start Date: May 2025

  • Compensation: As our Nurse Practitioner, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering healthcare in our community - and we recognize the immense value in that which is why we offer a Candidate Fulfillment package in addition to the funding received through the NPPC program.

    • Salary: ~ $300,000 for a full-time position with a 900 pt panel (as per Nurse Practitioner Primary Care (NPCC) funding through Government of Alberta)

      • Compensation is based on the Base salary + Business Cost + Rural, Remote and Northern Program RRNP funding through the NPCC

      • The NP candidate will responsible for holding the funding agreement with the Government of Alberta

    • Candidate Fulfillment Package includes a la carte options such as: rent/housing, housekeeping services, meal preparation/delivery, childcare stipend, paid vacation with locum coverage, health benefits, overhead relief, relocation assistance, etc.

      • When applicable we also offer a Partner Fulfillment Package. This can include assistance in finding meaningful employment within the community or other opportunities as needed.

Job Description: Rural Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive and holistic primary care services, including managing a panel of ~900 patients, as well as providing walk-in clinic visits.

  • Diagnosing, treating, and managing acute and chronic illnesses, conducting physical examinations, and prescribing medications

  • Make informed clinical decisions based on evidence-based practice, patient preferences, and the highest standards of care

  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care

  • Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their needs are met and their voices are heard in their healthcare journey

  • Educate patients and families about health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures to promote health and wellness

  • Take a leadership role in designing and implementing innovative healthcare programs and initiatives tailored to the clinic's patient population and community needs

  • Engage with the local community to understand its healthcare needs and contribute to community health initiatives

  • Adhere to all relevant regulations, laws, and standards governing nurse practitioner practice within the clinic's jurisdiction

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records using the clinic's electronic medical record (EMR) system

  • Participate in quality improvement activities to enhance patient care, safety, and outcomes within the clinic

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in nursing practice, attend relevant continuing education, and contribute to the advancement of the profession

  • Be open to flexible scheduling, including an after-hours/weekend clinic schedule

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner program at a Master's level

  • Successful completion of the Canadian Nurse Practitioner Exam (CNPE)

  • Current registration in good standing with College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) as a Nurse Practitioner in the Family/All-Ages stream

  • Current BCLS certification for health care providers

  • Extended CNPS/medical liability protection

  • Proven clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, making clinical decisions and managing a diverse range of patient conditions

  • Proficiency in conducting thorough patient assessments, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and providing holistic patient-centered care

  • Expertise in rural healthcare (understanding the unique challenges of rural healthcare is paramount)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex medical situations and make informed clinical decisions

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Capacity to take initiative, provide guidance, and lead healthcare initiatives 

  • Commitment to providing patient-centered care and promoting health and wellness within the community

  • Proficiency in multiple computer applications including electronic medical records (MedAccess preferred, NetCare), Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant medical apps (UptoDate)

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

  • A satisfactory criminal record check/police information check (including vulnerable sectors search) is required prior to the first day of hire

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience (RN/NP) working in a rural Emergency/Acute Care setting

  • Advanced Life Support or other advanced clinical nursing skills

  • Advanced ability to interpret diagnostics including, but not limited to, 12-lead ECG, labs, and x-rays

  • Previous experience in pediatrics or geriatrics and seniors health

This position is eligible for funding through the Government of Alberta’s Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program.

Location: Nestled in East Central Alberta, the Village of Consort is an active community with approximately 700 citizens and a large rural surrounding area.
